The URL inspector can be found as a button under the Rule Url in the creation or editing screen of a given rule.
Its main purpose is to help you identified what other websites are used for the proper operations of a given website.
Let's say that you have a rule denying all websites and only allowing what you want. You wanted to enable the following website...
https://techstuffer.com/wordpress-serve-images-from-subdomain/
You created a rule for it allowing it and now it loads but all the images and certain functionality seem to be missing. This indicates that the website above uses resources from other websites that are not allowed in your WebFilter.
An easy way to check is to do the following.
- Navigate to the original rule that you created and click on the edit button, then on the URL Inspector. This will open a new tab.
- You can also go to your Control Panel link above and select, URL Inspector.
- Enter the URL into the Rule Url field.
- If the URL Inspector was open from a rule, the Rule Url would have been copied for you already.
- Click on the Check Url Button.
You will see something similar to the screen below.
This lets you know that 22 images come from another domain called gravatar.com. This explains why some of the pictures were missing.
To fix just click on the Create Rule button at the level that you wish, say the account level. This will open a new tab. Review the details there and click save.
After 30s your WebFilter users should able to see the images coming from gravatar.com for the website above.
